Our goal of the World Cup 2014

stádio Nacional Mané Garrincha

The92.net cofounder Pete ( pb1uk10 ) picks his goal of the World Cup. Rightly so there was a lot of hype surrounding the World Cup and after the disappointment of 2010 to live up to expectations I was somewhat wary of getting too carried away in the build up to this summer’s competition. Boy did it deliver though, the group stage in the main being non-stop entertainment with goals flying in left right and centre. Looking back at the goals it has been a tournament of Volleys. Many not only claim that James Rodriguez’s strike against Uruguay in the last… Read more »

World Cup 2014 Blog Four: Waar is da feestje?….. HIER is da feestje!

Belgium World Cup 2014 Stadium Mineirão

It’s time for part 4 of Michael Moss’s World Cup 2014 blog… We stumbled from the plane and into the heat of Belo Horitonte (said Bay-lo Hori-zon-ch) and were immediately eager to see how the Germany Portugal game was faring. As we made our way to find the game, iIt was very apparent that the planned expansion to support the World Cup was not yet complete. Signage was missing, large areas were sealed off by plastic sheeting or tape, and swaths of the flooring were incomplete and definitely tripping hazards, but without the expected warning signs of tripping hazards. Despite… Read more »

We welcome Kenilworth Road back to the 92!

Simon Pitts Commentator for Diverse FM, the official broadcast partner for Luton Town Football Club

It has been anything but plain sailing for Luton Town over the last half decade. Relegations, administration and points deductions led the Hatters out of the Football League. It’s not been an overnight process, but they’ve regrouped, rebuilt and after romping to the Conference title they’re back! We speak to Town’s official match commentator Simon Pitts about their journey. Groundsman: It has been a long and difficult road to regain your Football League status after 5 years, how did it feel when you clinched promotion? Simon: It was an amazing feeling, I thought it was going to happen in previous… Read more »

Spurs move a step closer to leaving White Hart Lane

Manchester United away at Spurs White Hart Lane 2012 by http://www.the92.net/user-profile?user=30#.U8I8kI1dVU8

Tottenham received a major boost this week with the news that work on their proposed new 58000 seater stadium can begin. The approval from the government now means that 95% of the planned development has given the green light and if all goes to plan Spurs should be kicking off the 2017/18 season in their new home. So it looks like we could have another new edition to the 92 league grounds. Spurs fans are you in favour of the new stadium or would you have preferred the club stay to redevelop and expand White Hart Lane? Let us know… Read more »

World Cup 2014 Blog Three: The Rhythm of Rio

The Maracana in a sunset tone.

In part 3 of his World Cup 2014 blog Moss heads to Rio. The World Cup 2014 has been lambasted for it’s poor effort to support Brazil, a developing country, with it’s infrastructure programs. The two biggest cities with a combined population of 20 million individuals, although neither the capital, have no rail connection, despite being a relatively close 420km apart. Our group of seven assumed escape velocity from the concrete swamp of Sao Paulo and raced into luscious countryside, however none of us witnessed this due to drowning in slumber. Upon occasionally waking, I admired the freshness of seeing… Read more »

World Cup 2014 Blog Two: Landing with a bump

Michael Moss Sao Paulo World Cup 2014

the92.net co-founder and global groundhopper Michael Moss in the second of a series of blogs looking back at his time in Brazil, World Cup 2014. Bleary eyed, tired and hungry, after my 15 hour flight into Sao Paulo, host city for the 2014 World Cup, for the opening ceremony, I dragged myself through the airport, following the masses to the exit signs. I suddenly descended a staircase into a hall of chaos. This was the clearing hall, and pandemonium was the only rule. The queue snaked throughout the hall (large enough for a 7-a-side game), single file, to a line… Read more »

Cheltenham town fc wembley league 2 play off final 2012

Since our last blog on the issue the clubs have voiced opposition to the FA’s plans to introduce a new League 3 to aid the fortunes of the England team. After such a lame performance at this summers World Cup no doubt the issue won’t be dead in the water. To find out a bit more about how it could affect the supporters of the clubs we catch up with exiled Scotsman and Cheltenham Town fan Dave Nelson. Groundsman: Initially, what are your thoughts on the FA’s proposal to bring in B teams to the lower leagues? Dave: When I… Read more »

England World Cup Analysis – Round Pegs in Round Holes Please Roy!

Emile Heskey England Shirt World Cup 2010

England’s first 90 minutes at the 2014 is complete and already we are staring down the barrel of an early plane home. Pre-match there was much cause for optimism. ‘Whipping boys’ Costa Rica had upset Uruguay coming from behind to take a 3-1 victory, the group was up for grabs, but despite a more encouraging performance than in recent tournaments it was ultimately the same result again a well organised Italian side who ruthlessly exploited our weaknesses. So where did it go wrong? Now the majority of fans think they know better and I may give that impression but obviously… Read more »
