Game watched: Bolton Wanderers 1-1 Southend

Bolton's out of town superstadium, one of the best designed in the country, has a special place in my 92 after my first attempt to get to a game was unsuccessful as a result of a fatal crash on the M6, the lad that died having also been headed to the match.  The second attempt to get to the ground was successful, but an abject performance by the home side dampened the atmosphere.

And so it was on the third attempt that I finally made it into the away end with 650 visiting Shrimpers who had endured a dreadful journey both in terms of the weather and the start to the season.  So it came as an enormous surprise when Southend took the lead with a sublime volley, greeted at half time by a congratulatory tweet from Theo Paphitis.  Phrases like 'backs to the wall', 'under the cosh' and 'men against boys' sprang to find as the hosts poured on the pressure for the remaining 87 minutes, but were only able to find a single strike to send this particular away fan back home to Old Ma Shrimper and the kids with a point.  Times may have changed, but it was definitely third time lucky...
