BurnSand visited Elland Road on 29/02/2004

Game watched: Leeds United 2-2 Liverpool

My last of seven visits to Elland Road in the years 2000-2004 and the third game of the 2004 winter break tour with my daughter. . This was by far the greatest match I watched there. It was a Sunday noon kickoff, so we were up early although the trip to Leeds was a short one. We got on one of the buses to Elland Road and it's possible I sneaked in to the Peacock to get a pint before the game. John Charles, the gentle giant, had died the preceding Sunday and before the game got underway there was a minue of silence and tributes paid to one of Leeds' greatest players ever.

The game itself was as intense it can be in England. Milan Baros equalised late in the first half after Leeds had turned the game around going from 0-1 to 2-1, Bakke and Viduka the scorers. Harry Kewell had scored an unpopular goal for the Reds to give them the lead.

At the end of the season Leeds were relegated together with Leicester and Wolves. The dark days at Elland Road were about to begin.
