Game watched: Notts County 0-0 Aldershot Town

Second game of a four-day-four-game-tour in November 2009. I had arrived by train from Southend changing trains in London and Grantham. My Nottingham hotel had been cancelled at the airport, but I had managed to book another one while on travel.

It was drizzling down and I visited a couple of pubs before the game. This was the day I discovered how great protection against drizzle a woollen cap can be. At the game I was sitting in a very good position in the Jimmy Sirrel Stand. The reason I had picked Notts County on this day was their Swedish manager, Hans Backe, and Sven-Göran Eriksson, County's Director of Football.

This was Backe's second home game in charge of four as he left on December 15th after the owner Munto Finance [see wikipedia, Russell_King_(fraudster)] had put the club up for sale. Two wins, 3 draws and 2 losses was Backe's managerial record in Nottingham. The same season Sol Campbell had played one game (at Morecambe) for the Magpies before leaving.

The Aldershot game ended goalless. I believe County missed a penalty. The season ended on a bright note for Notts County. They won the L2 championship after the club had been taken over by new owners.

The next morning it was off to Stoke for the next game.
