Game watched: Wigan Athletic 0-4 Arsenal

I had work to do up in the Lake District the following week, so I arrived on Friday to watch two games over the weekend. I stayed in a quaint hotel in Warrington with wobbling floors, but it was cheap. I went by the name Sven there during the weekend.

I made the short trip to Wigan some time after 10 and found a pub in town that could serve me a few pints and lunch. In good time for the game, I crossed the railroad and walked up to the shopping centre in front of  DW Stadium. I may have found another bar there before I picked up my ticket to the Springfield Stand.

The game was a one-sided affair. Mikel Arteta scored a long-range shot early on and the vistors added a second before halftime when Thomas Vermaelen headed in a corner. In the second half, Gervinio added a third and van Persie was served the fourth by Walcott.

A memorable event was a double substitution by Wigan in the second half when the towering Franco di Santo (1.93 m) and the tiny Albert Crusat (1.64 m) came on. Seeing them stand together to get on the pitch was quite funny.
