BurnSand visited Villa Park on 28/08/2013

Game watched: Aston Villa 3-0 Rotherham United

Fourth of five games on an August 2013 tour with my daughter. We were staying in a hotel near New Street Station so we had an early dinner and went out to the ground with a metro train. We had already picked up our tickets in the Villa shop in Birmingham centre. We entered our seats in the Doug Ellis Lower after first walking a tour around the impressive stadium. At the statue of William McGregor I gave a speech to my daughter about the importance of the man for English league football.

This was a replay of the first League Cup final in 1961. 52 years later the scoreline at Villa Park was the same. Paul Lambert's Aston Villa showed early that there were two divisions separating them and Steve Evans' team. Andreas Weimann and Christian Benteke scored before halftime and Fabian Delph followed up with a third in the second half. Nicklas Helenius, a tall Danish striker and a Villa failure, came on as a sub in the second half. I was impressed by Ben Pringle in the Millers' team.
