Game watched: Oxford United 3-3 Dagenham & Redbridge

Last game of a week-long tour with my daughter in August 2014. We arrived to Oxford from Cambridge on a Stagecoach bus the day before the game, doing the famous University cities in two days. After the game we took the train to London to fly home from Heathrow the following day. In Oxford, we stayed at the Holiday Inn next to Kassam Stadium. It turned out that the hotel bar was a popular drinking place before the game for some home supporters. No away colours were allowed in there. This was the fifth league game of the season and Oxford were rock bottom in L2 with four losses.

We had greats seats next to the Daggers' bench and it's the only time I've had contact with a manager during the game. Oxford took an early lead only for Daggers to equalise within 7 minutes of play. The second half started in the same way with Daggers taking the lead within the first minute. 15 minutes later, Oxford were ahead courtesy of a header and a penalty from Danny Hylton. Twenty minutes from time Abu Ogogo made it 3-3 with a diving long-range shot that beat the Oxford keeper. It was after that I said to Wayne Burnett, the Dagenham manager, 'Great game' and he replied 'Yes, for you, not for me'.
