BurnSand visited Gigg Lane on 07/02/2015

Game watched: Bury 1-1 Exeter City

I had flown in to Manchester for a winter week tour in February. It was a bit of gamble, but the weather was really nice throughout the whole week.

On Saturday morning, I took the tram up to Bury, went down to Gigg Lane and bought a ticket for the 3 pm kickoff. Spurs and Arsenal had a 12.30 KO and I had located a sports pub in Radcliffe Road, The White Boar, where I watched the game and had lunch.

This was my first visit to Gigg Lane, I returned two and half years later for a Thursday cup game. Bury celebrated 130 years in 2015 and the match prgram ran a series of history lessons of the club's fortunes. Bury occupied the last playoff spot and Exeter was ninth before the game. Arron Davies gave Exeter the lead after a free-kick had hit the bar. Daniel Nardiello headed in the equaliser just as the game went into halftime. Bury had the better of the second half, but there were no more goals. At the time, Exeter's Paul Tisdale was the second longest serving football league manager after Arsène Wenger.

After the game, I made it back to my hotel, picked up my suitcase and went up to Newcastle to stay there two nights.
