Game watched: Luton Town 0-2 Ipswich Town

Fourth game of eight during the 2017 August tour. Up until this game I had my daughter with me. It was league ground #73 for me and #21 for her. We were staying at a hotel at Wembley so we had day-return-tickets to Luton and arrived around 3 for this evening game in the 2nd round of the Carabao Cup. We visited a shopping centre in the city where there was a Luton Town shop. We had a chat with the guy in the shop about Luton's closest geographical rivals and I was a bit surprised to hear him mention Stevenage. I hadn't realised they were so close since they are on different trainlines. Around 5.30 we had dinner at a pub in the city centre, after which we walked out to Kenilworth Road. Our seats were in a part of the stand where the seats were made of wood. Really old-fashioned style and not much space for the legs.

Luton Town were still in League 2 and had started the season three days earlier by trashing Yeovil 8-2. The opponents Ipswich Town were in the Championship with Mick McCarthy in charge. It took half an hour for the visitors to take the lead through David McGoldrick. Luton had several chances to equalise, but the result stayed that way until the 93rd minute when McGoldrick made it 2-0.

After the game, we ended up on the southern side of the main road through Luton. There were not many lights on the streets as we walked back, so were a bit relieved to get back to the station to take an evening train back to London. It was almost midnight before we were back at our hotel.
