Game watched: Newport County 1-0 Macclesfield Town

Match No 2 on my January 2020 trip. I stayed in Cardiff, where I had arrived the day before, and took a train to Newport in the afternoon. I had a beer in town before I walked to the ground to pick up my pre-paid ticket. There was a new Wetherspoon about half a mile on the other side of the ground so I went there and ate dinner before returning to the ground the same way. At the ground there was a huge social tent at the northern end, which I visited. It was a rather cold night, but evening games in January are hardly anything but cold.

Newport got a well deserved lead after half an hour through their captain Joss Labadie and were well on top of the proceedings in the first half. Macclesfield came out with more fighting spirit in the second half and had more possession throughout the remaining 45 minutes as Newport were defending their lead. It was nice to see that I recognized so many of Newport's cup heroes from TV games I watched and that they were still playing for the amber army.

Attendance on the night was 3,354 and after the game I safely returned to Cardiff for one more night in the Welsh capital.
