Game watched: Southampton 1-3 Manchester United

Southampton moved to this new 32,000+ stadium for the start of the 2001-02 season. An impressive stadium, very similar to Leicester’s new Walkers Stadium, with great facilities for the fans, but without the history of The Dell. Until this season, this stadium hadn’t brought the club the same luck as The Dell did to Southampton yet, as they were relegated at the end of the 2004-05 season and only returned this season. The positive thing for away supporters is a doubled away ticket allocation from 1500 at The Dell to 3,000 here. The Dell was always one of my favourite away trips and I was sad to see it go.

A good thing for away fans driving by car is the Park and Ride facility just off Junction 8 of the M27 Motorway. It's £10 per car, not bad if there's a few of you in the car and you're taken by bus right to and from the stadium. I've done this most times, along with parking in the centre of Southampton a couple of times and walking to and from the ground - about 15-20 minute walk.
