JakePompeySmith visited Pride Park Stadium on 30/03/2018

Game watched: Derby County 1-4 Sunderland

Although a nice enough stadium, with the modernisation and organisation of the stands ensuring the visit was comfortable, it did lack character. The atmosphere was decent and was improved with a good pre-match show and build-up to kick off put on by the organisers in the ground. The ground was in a good location, in the middle of what seemed to be some sort of retail park - there’s a lot of space surrounding the ground to manoeuvre and have your usual programme sellers/burger vans and car parks etc, as well as potential stadium improvements. Although the programme was thick and insightful, I wasn’t too keen on the design personally. I did eat at Pride Park - a southern fried chicken burger and cheesy chips set me back £7.30, but filled an empty stomach perfectly and was well worth the money. Finally, the stewarding wasn’t great from what I saw - our carrier bag containing our Portsmouth flag wasn’t even checked and the steward I encountered hadn’t bothered to check anyone’s bags, which was worrying on a security side of things, especially in today’s world!
