Ticking off Fratton Park doing the 92

8 April 2017 is a date that will always hold special significance for blogger Michael Pilcher. A scorching hot day that felt more like mid-July than early April at the Hive was where Michael completed his journey to join the sacred 92 club. With over 30 blogs sharing his experiences it feels like we’ve been right there with him on the final third of his quest. We caught up with Michael to take a look back and reflect… Groundsman: Firstly congratulations on completing the 92! Which was your final ground and how did you commemorate the occasion? Michael: Thank… Read more »

Two Countries, Two Matches, Two Days.

In the dugout at the Memorial Stadium

Newcastle fan Colin Harrison continued to make strides towards the magical 92 club again taking advantage of some TV scheduling. A pain to many but ideal for those doing the 92 first stop Wales… DAY ONE Ground 73/92: Rodney Parade Game: Newport County 0-0 Doncaster Rovers Date: 10/02/2017 Newport County’s Rodney Parade was a ground I was going to leave till late in my quest to do the 92 as I fear they may be one team to fall through the trapdoor into Non-League. However, when I spotted their game against Doncaster Rovers had been moved to a Friday night… Read more »

The weather completes an unwanted hat-trick at Rodney Parade

Newport County v Morecambe League 2, a match that was later abandoned

Blogger Michael Pilcher made the trip across the border with his sights set on Rodney Parade. Despite the Exiles languishing at the foot the 92 the ground hopper was keen to get it off the list in the hope of completing this season… Ground 85/92: Rodney Parade Game: Newport County A – A Morecambe (Abandoned at half-time at 1-0, due to a waterlogged pitch) Date: 10/12/2016 Way back in March 2013 I convinced my wife we should spend a week’s holiday with our children in Wales, half of it in Swansea and the other half in Cardiff. Naturally I had… Read more »

The 92 Club gets a new Member at Brunton Park

gates at brunton park the home of league 2 side carlisle united

Blogger Tim Dove makes the long journey to Cumbria to tick off Brunton Park, the home of Carlisle United and in doing so join the much coveted 92 club. Ground: Brunton Park 92/92! Game: Carlisle United 0-1 Newport County Date: 26/09/2015 Thoughts on the ground: So, this was it. Ground 92. Left deliberately so as to attend a traditional ground with football history as the last ground. A ground with terracing and located within walking distance of the town centre. Having completed my attendance at the 91st ground in the opening weeks of the 2015-6 season then it meant I… Read more »

89 down 3 to go! The 92 club beckons at Rodney Parade

welcome to rodney parade the home of newport county blog veteran Tim Dove flies into Newport to tick off Rodney Parade as he inches closer to joining the 92 club. Ground: Rodney Parade 89/92 Game: Newport County 0-2 Bury Date: 11/04/2015 Thoughts on the ground: Having spent eighteen years at the Newport Stadium, Newport County moved to Rodney Parade at the beginning of the 2012/13 season. This is shared with Newport Gwent Dragons Rugby Club and there are more signs for the rugby club than Newport County as you walk around the ground. As is typical with older stadiums it is situated very much within the local community… Read more »

The Robin’s fly the bridge to Rodney Parade

Rodney Parade the home of league 2 side newport county

A trip across the bridge for Adam Thurston as he heads to Newport to Rodney Parade as the Robin’s fly into town. Ground: Rodney Parade 8/92 Game: Newport County 1-1 Cheltenham Town Date: 13/03/2015 Thoughts on the ground: Onto my second League Two game of this season, both involving the red and white’s of Cheltenham Town. They’ve had a very disappointing season thus far and there is definitely a lot of room for improvement. The home game vs. Bury last month showed that they could battle but they didn’t have that cutting edge to prevent a 2-1 home defeat. Their… Read more »

The Exiles head to Kingsmeadow

AFC Wimbledon v Newport County League Two

Newport County fan James Steven makes his blogging debut making the trip to Kingsmeadow to see the Exiles take on AFC Wimbledon. Ground: 43/92 Game: AFC Wimbledon 2-0 Newport County AFC Date: 07/02/2015 Thoughts on the ground: Since the rebuilding of AFC Wimbledon the side have played their games at Kingstonian’s ground Kingsmeadow. It’s a temporary ground for the Wombles as they are pressing for a move back to their true home. As a Newport County supporter through the years I’ve watched the side claim two promotions. So for me this ground was a bit of a flashback of… Read more »
