A trip to Blundell Park doing the 92

View from the Young's Upper to the Humber Estuary

Blogger pb1uk reports back from the Lincolnshire coast as newly promoted Grimsby Town continued to settle back into life in League 2 against Crewe. Ground: Blundell Park (62/92) Game: Grimsby Town 0-2 Crewe Alexandra Date: 17/09/2016 After the National League Play-off Final in May I was delighted that Grimsby Town had finally made it back to the Football League. That’s nothing against Forest Green, but a trip to the coast and a ground with the character of Blundell Park is perfect fodder for any groundhopper. With a 100 mile trip from my base in the East Midlands I was determined… Read more »

A family affair at the ABAX Stadium

Peterborough United v Swindon Town league 1 2016

Blogger Michael Pilcher sets the standard for parents doing the 92 combining a great day out that’s light on the wallet with another tick off the list. Read and learn… Ground 81/92: ABAX Stadium, Peterborough Peterborough United 2 – 2 Swindon Town 3rd September 2016 After my successful experiment of taking my five-year-old twin daughters to Priestfield for the EFL Trophy in midweek, they had already asked “Can we go to football again on Saturday?” Most parents might have been tempted to fob them off with a standard “Maybe” or “We’ll see” to keep them at bay, perhaps hoping they’d… Read more »

St Luke's Church goodison park

Blogger pb1uk reports back on a trip to the blue half of Merseyside as his journey to the 92 club continues. Yeovil Town were the visitors, making the long midweek trip from Somerset for the EFL Cup tie. Ground: Goodison Park (60/92) Game: Everton 4-0 Yeovil Town Date: 23/08/2016   The early rounds of the Cup competitions are a great way for groundhoppers to see their teams at grounds normally out of bounds. Due to family and work commitments usually i’d be unable to take advantage of this as the 33 grounds left on my 92 are each probably at… Read more »

The Priestfield Stadium welcomes the next generation

The Rainham end at the priestfield stadium gillingham

With just a dozen grounds left to go the92.net regular Michael Pilcher went back to where it all began. The Gills fan returned to his spiritual home to pass the baton on to the next generation. Ground 1/92: The Priestfield Gillingham 1 – 2 Luton Town 30th August 2016 Having fairly recently ticked off ground number 80, my latest blog isn’t about ground number 81 on my quest towards the 92, but instead, I’m going all the back to ground number 1: Priestfield, Gillingham. I won’t be reviewing my Priestfield debut (Gillingham 1 Arsenal 3, August 1994) or my competitive… Read more »

The Stadium Hoppers welcome in the new season

tottenham's white hart lane adorned with a stadium hoppers map

You may recall last year we spoke with the guys behind the fantastic Stadium Hoppers Map. Fast forward a season and we thought it was time for a catch up! Groundsman: How did you guys keep busy over the summer? Richard: Well whilst the season was done a good Stadium Hopper never stops! We had the opportunity to play at Kenilworth Road just after the season closed and managed to get to a couple of new grounds over the holidays too… However, our main focus has of course been planning the new Stadium Hoppers scratch football map for the new… Read more »

When Modern Football Took a Slap from Tradition: Dynamo Dresden

A notification was delivered to my phone by the German football publication Kicker. “Dynamo Dresden wird im Pokal RB Leipzig empfängen”, translated, Dynamo Dresden will host RB Leipzig in the Cup. For perspectives sake, Kicker seldom put out notifications. Secondly, the two teams have just been promoted from the second and third divisions. However, this clash wasn’t about two powerhouse teams being drawn in the cup. Rather two clubs from Saxony with two very different paths to this draw. The Clubs History Dynamo Dresden, a dominant force under the communist East German regime, winning numerous league titles and cups. In… Read more »

Second time lucky at Brunton Park

terrace at carlisle united ground brunton park

Blogger Michael Pilcher continues to make inroads into his 92 this season. After a previous failed attempt it was second time lucky as he made the trip to Carlisle… Ground: Brunton Park (80/92) Game: Carlisle United 1 – 0 Plymouth Argyle Date: 13/08/2016 For years I was under the impression Carlisle was a lot further away than it actually was. It’s only ten miles from the Scottish border which is why I’d got it into my head Carlisle was going to be a mission to get to, it always looked so far away on the maps. It was only after… Read more »
