Yeovil Town make the trip to Goodison Park

St Luke's Church goodison park

Blogger pb1uk reports back on a trip to the blue half of Merseyside as his journey to the 92 club continues. Yeovil Town were the visitors, making the long midweek trip from Somerset for the EFL Cup tie. Ground: Goodison Park (60/92) Game: Everton 4-0 Yeovil Town Date: 23/08/2016   The early rounds of the Cup competitions are a great way for groundhoppers to see their teams at grounds normally out of bounds. Due to family and work commitments usually i’d be unable to take advantage of this as the 33 grounds left on my 92 are each probably at… Read more »

The Priestfield Stadium welcomes the next generation

The Rainham end at the priestfield stadium gillingham

With just a dozen grounds left to go the92.net regular Michael Pilcher went back to where it all began. The Gills fan returned to his spiritual home to pass the baton on to the next generation. Ground 1/92: The Priestfield Gillingham 1 – 2 Luton Town 30th August 2016 Having fairly recently ticked off ground number 80, my latest blog isn’t about ground number 81 on my quest towards the 92, but instead, I’m going all the back to ground number 1: Priestfield, Gillingham. I won’t be reviewing my Priestfield debut (Gillingham 1 Arsenal 3, August 1994) or my competitive… Read more »

The London Stadium joins the 92

west ham's new home the london stadium

Before the domestic season started an eager Michael Pilcher headed to the capital to witness history. The blogger from Kent made the trip to the renamed London Stadium as West Ham United played the first game at their new home. Ground: London Stadium (77/92) Game: West Ham United 3 – 0 NK Domzale Date: 04/08/2016   After 112 years at their former home – 111 of it as Upton Park, before everyone suddenly started calling it the Boleyn Ground during the farewell season – the Hammers were starting life at their contentious new residence, the Olympic Stadium. Which, suddenly, was… Read more »

Second time lucky at Brunton Park

terrace at carlisle united ground brunton park

Blogger Michael Pilcher continues to make inroads into his 92 this season. After a previous failed attempt it was second time lucky as he made the trip to Carlisle… Ground: Brunton Park (80/92) Game: Carlisle United 1 – 0 Plymouth Argyle Date: 13/08/2016 For years I was under the impression Carlisle was a lot further away than it actually was. It’s only ten miles from the Scottish border which is why I’d got it into my head Carlisle was going to be a mission to get to, it always looked so far away on the maps. It was only after… Read more »

Portman Road witnesses a Cup-set

The cobbold stand at portman road, ipswich

Blogger Michael Pilcher continues to set the benchmark for us fellow groundhoppers doing the 92. This time Suffolk was the destination for a 1st round EFL Cup tie. If Forest Gump was a football fan from England the saying may well have gone “life is like a tie in the early rounds of the Cup. You never know what you’re gonna get”. Ground: Portman Road (79/92) Game: Ipswich Town 0 – 1 Stevenage Date: 09/08/2016 My third ground in six days: carry on at this rate, I’d have the 92 done by early September (if only it were that easy)…. Going Down-ton the Abbey Stadium

the main stand at the cambs glass stadium

With the new season underway blogger pb1uk sets about continuing his journey towards the 92 club with a trip to Cambridgeshire. Ground: Abbey Stadium (Cambs Glass Stadium) (59/92) Game: Cambridge United 1-1 Barnet Date: 06/08/2016   For the first time in a number of years the ups and downs from the Football League didn’t effect the number of grounds left to do on my 92. Enter stage left West Ham. The Hammer’s move from Upton Park saw a ground chalked off my list and put me back down to 58. Wanting to make this up as soon as possible an… Read more »

The season kicks off with a thriller at the City Ground

city ground view from the river trent

Having chalked the Olympic Stadium off his 92 already blogger Michael Pilcher wasted no time securing a brace as the Football League returned. The East Midlands was the destination as Burton Albion started their maiden season in the Championship making the short trip to former European Champions Nottingham Forest. Ground: City Ground (78/92) Game: Nottingham Forest 4 – 3 Burton Albion Date: 06/08/2016 I’d always had a bit of a soft spot for Nottingham Forest, I think mainly because their club badge ‘shiny’ in the Premier League ’95 sticker album always looked so glorious; the side that finished 3rd that… Read more »

Championship Football moves a step closer at the Pirelli Stadium

burton albion pirelli stadium

As the Football League season entered its penultimate round Michael Pilcher made another lengthy journey from Kent following Gillingham. Burton was the destination as the Brewers sought to inch closer to Championship football while the Gills still had hopes of a play off place. Ground: The Pirelli Stadium 78/92 Game: Burton Albion 2 – 1 Gillingham Date: 30/04/2016 Burton was in a cluster of grounds around the middle of the country I had yet to tick off, and what was supposed to be a top-of-the-table clash against my team Gillingham looked a good opportunity to get it ticked off. Alas,… Read more »

De Geusselt – A trip to see MVV Maastricht

The players warm up.

Dutch football has produced some of the best football and footballers our planet has ever seen. The invention of ‘Total Football’ from Ajax and further expansion with the national team to lead European and International football, and the introduction of some of the best coaches and footballers the world has ever seen. Clubs such as Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV and more recently Twente, have been competitive in European football competitions. Arguably one of the smallest nations to maintain such a prestigious hold within European football circles. But what lies beneath the glamour of the illustrious clubs? I went to see some… Read more »

92 before 30 – Griffin Park Brentford

Griffin Park Brentford under the floodlights

Blogger Katie recounts a trip to Griffin Park, the home of Championship side Brentford as she continues her journey to reach the 92 club before turning 30. Ground: Griffin Park 62/92 Game: Brentford 1-3 Burnley Date: 15/01/2016 Thoughts on the ground: Brentford’s ground is of course famous for having a pub on every corner. The two times that I’ve been to Griffin Park I haven’t managed to visit one which is a shame. We arrived at the ground with a quarter of an hour to kick off and the two that we walked past were heaving so not sure we… Read more »
